Mismatched (2020)

REVIEW: MISMATCHED (2020)
Dir: Akarsh Khurana, Nipun Dharmadhikari

Based on the book ‘When Dimple met Rishi’ by Sandhya Menon, Mismatched traces the lives of Dimple, a young millennial who wants to build an app, and Rishi, an easygoing boy, who unlike millennials believes in setting early in life, and is looking for a partner. Mismatched might seem as an effort to replicate Hollywood style rom-com series but it is honest and sincere in its approach. It traces the millennial culture in India and director Akarsh Khurana along with Nipun Dharmadhikari highlight some millennial issues with utmost ease.

The series brings up many issues pertaining to ego and gender issues, class conflicts and fake friendships, thus making it an engaging watch.

Gazal Dhaliwal’s writing is fresh and is uplifted by some wonderful performances by Prajakta Koli as Dimple, Rohit Saraf as Rishi, Rannvijay Singha as the cool teacher, Vidya Malavade as Zeenat, Devyani Shorey as Namrata, Muskkaan Jaferi as Celina and Taaruk Raina as Anmol amongst others.

Prateek Kuhad’s music is another strong point and post Karwaan, he gives us some more hummable tunes. This one’s absolutely fresh and feel good. Can’t wait for Season 2.

Mismatched is streaming on Netflix
