Drishyam 2 (2021)

Review: Drishyam 2 (2021)
Dir: Jeetu Joeseph

Drishyam 2, written and directed by Jeetu Joseph, begins six years after the first film. Georgekutty (played efficiently by a terrific Mohanlal) is now a successful theatre owner, taking his passion for cinema forward. However, his family is still coping up with the incident that shook them six years ago.

The best part about Drishyam 2, apart from the wonderful performances by the entire cast, is the writing. Unlike most sequels, which are made with a purpose to cash on the success of its previous film, Drishyam 2 has been made with a definite intent and purpose.

Jeetu Joseph pays attention to each and every detail, in fact much more than we saw in Drishyam, to give audiences a fair share of twists and turns, especially the climax.

Drishyam 2 is one of those films that is a taut thriller without any vulgarities or obscene content. It is a fine example of how one can make a brilliant film without adding any extra bit of ‘masala’ just for the sake of entertainment. It is a masterclass on how a perfect sequel can be made.

From Asha Sarath, Siddique to Murali Gopy, Meena, Anjali Nair (Saritha – watch out for this character) and Sumesh (Sabu), everyone surprises you with their fantastic performances.

It is a perfect thriller to watch with family. There is no reason why one shouldn’t watch this. This one’s a top-notch higher than the original, especially for the last 20 minutes. Absolutely gripping!

Drishyam 2 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. For the non-Mallus, the film can be watched with subtitles.
A word of advice: Watch it in the original language before the suspense leaks out.
